20:34.02 | orson | and I know that I can download it and use dpkg to install it, but it would rather make it in a proper way, as I have some other missing dependencies too |
20:34.05 | Pali | orson: search for package on: http://maemo.org/packages/ |
20:34.19 | orson | so, there is a question - do you use any other repos that are recommended? |
20:34.24 | Pali | there is no "liblzo2" package |
20:34.51 | Pali | orson, maybe you forgotten to write full name |
20:34.58 | Pali | check error message again |

20:36.14 | Pali | it is liblzo2-2? (with -2 suffix?) |
20:36.46 | orson | yeah, I've just tried it too |
20:37.05 | orson | maybe I will check with extras-devel, but I do not expect it to work |
20:37.10 | Pali | that package is in SSU repository |
20:37.21 | Pali | it is *not* in any extras/cssu |
20:37.30 | Pali | only in Nokia SSU |
20:38.48 | Pali | orson: check if you have enable Nokia's catalogues/repositories in Application manager |
20:39.34 | orson | ok, thanks for hints - I will try out new possibilities before asking more quesions ;) |
20:41.06 | Pali | orson: but there is problem with Nokia repositories, GPG expired last year, so maybe this is problem why you are unable to download that package |
20:41.33 | Pali | you can try to set phone date&time to year 2011 and then (maybe after reboot) it could work |
20:42.41 | orson | that was my doubt, I guess the SSU repo is downloads.maemo.nokia.com? |
20:42.51 | orson | what do you use instead? http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/mr0/? |
20:43.02 | orson | or skeiron? |
20:47.02 | Pali | orson: downloads.maemo.nokia.com |
20:47.10 | Pali | that default repo |
20:47.47 | Pali | repo is working (means all files/packages are here) but only gpg key which is used for signing packages expired |
20:48.00 | orson | ok, but isn't it down? if I try to open http://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/mr0/ I get access denied |
20:48.16 | Pali | and when you mirroring some repo, you cannot change signature... |
20:48.35 | Pali | orson: no it is not down, n900 apt can access it |
20:49.05 | Konsieur | Guys, I have a N9 that I use as my main phone, but I still have a N900 I love (both if I cound one with a dead USB port), but that N900 has an issue |
20:49.11 | Pali | it is normal that desktop web browser cannot open it (in n900 is special username + password for access) |
20:49.24 | Konsieur | When it runs out of battery, I mean completely out of battery, then I can't charge it using USB anymore |
20:49.34 | Konsieur | I can charge it using an external battery charger. |
20:49.49 | orson | Pali: thx, I was mistaken by the fact that I can access other repos that way.. |
20:50.02 | Konsieur | Once charged, or half charged, I can switch it on and charge normally. Is that a known issue? |
20:50.21 | orson | Konsieur: I guess so, it happened to me a few times at least |

20:50.44 | Konsieur | It's totally reproductible for me, I find no way of charging it from USB when battery is dead :/ |
20:50.54 | Konsieur | Is there a solution? |
20:50.56 | orson | Konsieur: do you use original Nokia batteries? and I mean with hologram and priced for more than 5$? |
20:51.00 | Pali | charging is implemented by application |
20:51.17 | Pali | so you need to have 1) working Maemo system and 2) enought power to start it |
20:51.18 | Konsieur | I think the battery in it is one of those that had a higher capacity, from the topic in TMO |
20:51.19 | orson | Konsieur: you may try using more powerful usb charger, the default one gives only 350 mA |
20:51.23 | Konsieur | But I have a original one somewhere |
20:51.35 | orson | Konsieur: I managed to fix it with stronger charger from other phone |
20:51.43 | eccerr0r | konsieur: I found that some chargers work better than others, and even my nokia AC10C is "weak" and won't charge from dead |
20:51.59 | Konsieur | AC10C is the default N900 charger? |
20:52.12 | Konsieur | I think my N900 charger is stronger than my N9's one |
20:52.16 | eccerr0r | AC10U I think, but pretty much the same as AC10C |
20:52.18 | orson | Konsieur: or sometimes you may have some luck using USB port in PC (especially with externally powered hubs) |
20:52.34 | Konsieur | I'm trying with a USB from PC right know |
20:52.36 | Konsieur | now |
20:52.49 | eccerr0r | so far the best charger I have is LG-branded oddly enough |
20:53.13 | eccerr0r | beats the heck out of the nokia somehow... |
20:53.17 | Konsieur | I just tried several chargers. All I get is still the same thing: quick orange led flash, and nothing |
20:53.30 | orson | Konsieur: and it does not help too? you may try to change to other usb port, as usually there are a few ports connected internally and they have to share power |
20:54.03 | eccerr0r | I have two CA101 nokia cables and neither charge my n900 well |
20:54.11 | Konsieur | But I NEVER had this issue with my former N900, the one that eventually died (dead USB port) |
20:54.21 | Konsieur | Why am I having that here, with the same chargers and batteries? |
20:54.27 | eccerr0r | the CA101D (the short one) however charges just fine... need to try different plugs |
20:54.46 | eccerr0r | YMMV, I think the QC on microusb plugs vary greatly |
20:55.03 | eccerr0r | not to mention the n900's microusb socket's tendency to rip out... |
20:55.08 | orson | Pali: thanks for the hints, it really works :) |

20:55.41 | Konsieur | Indeed eccerr0r, but I bought a second N900 when my first died because of microusb |
20:56.06 | orson | Pali: without the hack, I just get some warnings and I have to agree to install not authenticated packages |
20:56.14 | eccerr0r | as of right now my LG charger is my best charger, will wake up my n900 from a dead battery. The CA101D will also do the same... |
20:56.40 | eccerr0r | next tier I have a $1 dollar tree, which does charge, but not quite as well as the CA101D. |

20:56.59 | Konsieur | But I don't understand why my battery is going totally dead now, I've never had this issue with the previous N900 (and same battery). And I don't think the battery is dead |
20:57.16 | eccerr0r | after that, my AC10C will charge slowly... and won't charge from dead. |
20:57.23 | Konsieur | Could my Maemo installation have an issue causing it to dry battery to 0% instead of, let's say 2%? |
20:57.37 | eccerr0r | the two CA101s I have (that aren't "D") belong in the trash really, but they do USB fine |
20:57.51 | Konsieur | My N9 and N900 genuine chargers used to charge my N900 when it died after a long day |
20:58.50 | Konsieur | Still the same with N9 USB cable + USB3 port on PC |
20:59.23 | Pali | what do you mean by 0% instead of 2% ? |
20:59.59 | eccerr0r | I think the problem is that many microusb plugs wear out after a while... |
21:00.16 | eccerr0r | or are poorly designed |
21:00.53 | eccerr0r | I just bought a $6 charger from microcenter and it doesn't charge my n900 either... but after poking at the microusb plug I got it to work |
21:00.57 | orson | Konsieur: give it some time, it won't charge it very quickly |
21:01.00 | Konsieur | I don't know, someone said that it needs battery to charge. I guess the systems thus shutdown before battery is TOTALLY dry. |
21:01.12 | Konsieur | But I don't know if that is what is not working here |
21:01.42 | Konsieur | No but I see it doesn't charge at all because the led just blinks once orange. When it charges, it slowly lights in white |
21:01.52 | Pali | yes, by default maemo system shutdown before battery is empty |
21:02.30 | Konsieur | I'm wondering whether tat could be broken on mine (wouldn't know why). The previous N900 never had this issue, with same battery and charger |
21:03.04 | *** join/#maemo markinfo (~marek@dhcp25.dmg.tuwien.ac.at) |
21:03.07 | eccerr0r | I think (but not sure) what's going on here - if your battery is sucked dry it can only try to charge in high speed mode. But the onboard charging system will notice you have weak power (due to bad port or bad plug) and give up charging. Easiest solution is to just not let it run dry, else need to keep on trying other chargers until you find one that works |
21:03.12 | Konsieur | And the microusb on this one is ok eccerr0r, it works quite good when the phone is running, or when it charges (no shortcircuit) |
21:03.53 | Konsieur | Yeah it sounds relevant eccerr0r, but then why is it running totally dry each time? |
21:04.06 | *** join/#maemo konelix (~konelix@190.143.225.154) |
21:04.16 | eccerr0r | bad plug that never triggers the charging system? |
21:04.21 | Konsieur | I'm gonna charge it externally to initiate charge, but I would like to avoid that in the future |
21:04.37 | eccerr0r | you could use the charge21 script to initiate charge I think. |
21:04.57 | Konsieur | Nope the plug is OK (believe me, now that I'm used to a dead microUSB N900, I check the led everytime I plug the new N900 :p) |
21:05.08 | eccerr0r | I've noticed sometimes when I plug in, it does not start charging |
21:05.10 | Konsieur | What is this script? |
21:05.33 | eccerr0r | search for charge21.sh ... I think that's what it's called... |
21:06.40 | eccerr0r | it mucks with the charging system - it can override the default power plug detection system apparently. |
21:06.57 | eccerr0r | but if you have a bad microusb, it can't do anything about that (obviously) |
21:06.58 | Konsieur | And tries to charge in slow mode? |
21:07.08 | eccerr0r | it can force it into fast mode |
21:07.16 | Konsieur | I'm totally sure the microusb is fine |
21:07.30 | eccerr0r | but it requires the n900 to be running |
21:07.38 | orson | afaik, fast mode can be also triggered by shortening d+/d- in usb plug |
21:07.44 | Konsieur | Yes, I'll charge the battery externally this time |
21:08.00 | eccerr0r | eh... no as I've found out, the microusb can be "partially" working or "weak" due to a poorly designed plug |
21:08.06 | Konsieur | Then I'll see when battery dries out if it still doesn't charge normally |
21:08.30 | eccerr0r | if the contacts to the power pins are poor, you can get "weak" power and will take a long time to charge |
21:08.35 | Konsieur | If it charges noramlly, then perhaps it's just that I leave it out of battery too long before recharging, and the battery naturally gets empty |
21:09.50 | Konsieur | Well, I'll see how it turns out soon :) |
21:09.52 | Konsieur | Thanks all :) |
21:10.41 | Konsieur | Now I know it's because it lacks power to initiate charge. That is the first step towards a firm solution. I'll continue investigating to see why battery is that empty, or as you say, if microusb seems fine, but is not |
21:11.21 | eccerr0r | this is the only explanation that would explain all the problems I see when charging my n900 |
21:11.46 | eccerr0r | my official nokia AC10C can't charge my n900 up when the battery is flat |
21:13.25 | Konsieur | Yes, so either my battery is totally flat (more than it should), and then it may be because 1. the battery is dead (I doubt it), 2. there's an issue in my Maemo system, that doesn't prevent consumption till 0%, or 3. when the N900 is flat, I wait too long before charging it (it's not my main phone anymore), so the battery slowly dries out till 0% |
21:13.47 | Konsieur | Or it's the microusb that apparently works, but has bad connections and therefore low power |
21:13.54 | kerio | Konsieur: or maybe all of the above |
21:14.00 | Konsieur | D: |
21:14.05 | kerio | energy is *fun*! |
21:18.54 | eccerr0r | besides, should immediately charge li-ion as soon as possible when discharged to empty |
