03:29.31rikaneeI guess the best solution for this is to make a faux-battery? Dummy signal to BSI and a large capacitor just to let it boot.

03:45.01rikaneedr1fter: not here, I can't. All the stores have totally run out of 5800 batteries, which is a damn shame considering the 5800 was the most popular phone for some time

11:56.21DocScrutinizer05anyway, you can edit and delete all known APs in your settings->"internet coonections"->"[connections]", there you get a list of all known AP and can "[edit]" and "[delete]" each single one

20:41.06Paliorson: but there is problem with Nokia repositories, GPG expired last year, so maybe this is problem why you are unable to download that package
20:41.33Paliyou can try to set phone date&time to year 2011 and then (maybe after reboot) it could work
20:42.41orsonthat was my doubt, I guess the SSU repo is downloads.maemo.nokia.com?

20:49.24KonsieurWhen it runs out of battery, I mean completely out of battery, then I can't charge it using USB anymore
20:49.34KonsieurI can charge it using an external battery charger.
20:49.49orsonPali: thx, I was mistaken by the fact that I can access other repos that way..
20:50.02KonsieurOnce charged, or half charged, I can switch it on and charge normally. Is that a known issue?
20:50.21orsonKonsieur: I guess so, it happened to me a few times at least
20:50.35*** join/#maemo rcg (~rcg@aftr-37-24-154-0.unity-media.net)
20:50.42PaliKonsieur: yes
20:50.44KonsieurIt's totally reproductible for me, I find no way of charging it from USB when battery is dead :/
20:50.54KonsieurIs there a solution?
20:50.56orsonKonsieur: do you use original Nokia batteries? and I mean with hologram and priced for more than 5$?
20:51.00Palicharging is implemented by application
20:51.17Paliso you need to have 1) working Maemo system and 2) enought power to start it
20:51.18KonsieurI think the battery in it is one of those that had a higher capacity, from the topic in TMO
20:51.19orsonKonsieur: you may try using more powerful usb charger, the default one gives only 350 mA
20:51.23KonsieurBut I have a original one somewhere
20:51.35orsonKonsieur: I managed to fix it with stronger charger from other phone
20:51.43eccerr0rkonsieur: I found that some chargers work better than others, and even my nokia AC10C is "weak" and won't charge from dead
20:51.59KonsieurAC10C is the default N900 charger?
20:52.12KonsieurI think my N900 charger is stronger than my N9's one
20:52.16eccerr0rAC10U I think, but pretty much the same as AC10C
20:52.18orsonKonsieur: or sometimes you may have some luck using USB port in PC (especially with externally powered hubs)
20:52.34KonsieurI'm trying with a USB from PC right know
20:52.36Konsieurnow
20:52.49eccerr0rso far the best charger I have is LG-branded oddly enough
20:53.13eccerr0rbeats the heck out of the nokia somehow...
20:53.17KonsieurI just tried several chargers. All I get is still the same thing: quick orange led flash, and nothing
20:53.30orsonKonsieur: and it does not help too? you may try to change to other usb port, as usually there are a few ports connected internally and they have to share power
20:54.03eccerr0rI have two CA101 nokia cables and neither charge my n900 well
20:54.11KonsieurBut I NEVER had this issue with my former N900, the one that eventually died (dead USB port)
20:54.21KonsieurWhy am I having that here, with the same chargers and batteries?
20:54.27eccerr0rthe CA101D (the short one) however charges just fine... need to try different plugs
20:54.46eccerr0rYMMV, I think the QC on microusb plugs vary greatly
20:55.03eccerr0rnot to mention the n900's microusb socket's tendency to rip out...
20:55.08orsonPali: thanks for the hints, it really works :)

20:55.35Paliorson: with or without "time&date" hack?
20:55.41KonsieurIndeed eccerr0r, but I bought a second N900 when my first died because of microusb
20:56.06orsonPali: without the hack, I just get some warnings and I have to agree to install not authenticated packages
20:56.14eccerr0ras of right now my LG charger is my best charger, will wake up my n900 from a dead battery.  The CA101D will also do the same...
20:56.40eccerr0rnext tier I have a $1 dollar tree, which does charge, but not quite as well as the CA101D.
20:56.54Paliorson, ok

20:56.59KonsieurBut I don't understand why my battery is going totally dead now, I've never had this issue with the previous N900 (and same battery). And I don't think the battery is dead
20:57.16eccerr0rafter that, my AC10C will charge slowly... and won't charge from dead.
20:57.23KonsieurCould my Maemo installation have an issue causing it to dry battery to 0% instead of, let's say 2%?
20:57.37eccerr0rthe two CA101s I have (that aren't "D") belong in the trash really, but they do USB fine
20:57.51KonsieurMy N9 and N900 genuine chargers used to charge my N900 when it died after a long day
20:58.50KonsieurStill the same with N9 USB cable + USB3 port on PC
20:59.23Paliwhat do you mean by 0% instead of 2% ?
20:59.59eccerr0rI think the problem is that many microusb plugs wear out after a while...
21:00.16eccerr0ror are poorly designed
21:00.53eccerr0rI just bought a $6 charger from microcenter and it doesn't charge my n900 either... but after poking at the microusb plug I got it to work
21:00.57orsonKonsieur: give it some time, it won't charge it very quickly
21:01.00KonsieurI don't know, someone said that it needs battery to charge. I guess the systems thus shutdown before battery is TOTALLY dry.
21:01.12KonsieurBut I don't know if that is what is not working here
21:01.42KonsieurNo but I see it doesn't charge at all because the led just blinks once orange. When it charges, it slowly lights in white
21:01.52Paliyes, by default maemo system shutdown before battery is empty
21:02.30KonsieurI'm wondering whether tat could be broken on mine (wouldn't know why). The previous N900 never had this issue, with same battery and charger
21:03.04*** join/#maemo markinfo (~marek@dhcp25.dmg.tuwien.ac.at)
21:03.07eccerr0rI think (but not sure) what's going on here - if your battery is sucked dry it can only try to charge in high speed mode.  But the onboard charging system will notice you have weak power (due to bad port or bad plug) and give up charging.   Easiest solution is to just not let it run dry, else need to keep on trying other chargers until you find one that works
21:03.12KonsieurAnd the microusb on this one is ok eccerr0r, it works quite good when the phone is running, or when it charges (no shortcircuit)
21:03.53KonsieurYeah it sounds relevant eccerr0r, but then why is it running totally dry each time?
21:04.06*** join/#maemo konelix (~konelix@190.143.225.154)
21:04.16eccerr0rbad plug that never triggers the charging system?
21:04.21KonsieurI'm gonna charge it externally to initiate charge, but I would like to avoid that in the future
21:04.37eccerr0ryou could use the charge21 script to initiate charge I think.
21:04.57KonsieurNope the plug is OK (believe me, now that I'm used to a dead microUSB N900, I check the led everytime I plug the new N900 :p)
21:05.08eccerr0rI've noticed sometimes when I plug in, it does not start charging
21:05.10KonsieurWhat is this script?
21:05.33eccerr0rsearch for charge21.sh ... I think that's what it's called...
21:06.40eccerr0rit mucks with the charging system - it can override the default power plug detection system apparently.
21:06.57eccerr0rbut if you have a bad microusb, it can't do anything about that (obviously)
21:06.58KonsieurAnd tries to charge in slow mode?
21:07.08eccerr0rit can force it into fast mode
21:07.16KonsieurI'm totally sure the microusb is fine
21:07.30eccerr0rbut it requires the n900 to be running
21:07.38orsonafaik, fast mode can be also triggered by shortening d+/d- in usb plug
21:07.44KonsieurYes, I'll charge the battery externally this time
21:08.00eccerr0reh... no as I've found out, the microusb can be "partially" working or "weak" due to a poorly designed plug
21:08.06KonsieurThen I'll see when battery dries out if it still doesn't charge normally
21:08.30eccerr0rif the contacts to the power pins are poor, you can get "weak" power and will take a long time to charge
21:08.35KonsieurIf it charges noramlly, then perhaps it's just that I leave it out of battery too long before recharging, and the battery naturally gets empty
21:09.50KonsieurWell, I'll see how it turns out soon :)
21:09.52KonsieurThanks all :)
21:10.41KonsieurNow I know it's because it lacks power to initiate charge. That is the first step towards a firm solution. I'll continue investigating to see why battery is that empty, or as you say, if microusb seems fine, but is not
21:11.21eccerr0rthis is the only explanation that would explain all the problems I see when charging my n900
21:11.46eccerr0rmy official nokia AC10C can't charge my n900 up when the battery is flat
21:13.25KonsieurYes, so either my battery is totally flat (more than it should), and then it may be because 1. the battery is dead (I doubt it), 2. there's an issue in my Maemo system, that doesn't prevent consumption till 0%, or 3. when the N900 is flat, I wait too long before charging it (it's not my main phone anymore), so the battery slowly dries out till 0%
21:13.47KonsieurOr it's the microusb that apparently works, but has bad connections and therefore low power
21:13.54kerioKonsieur: or maybe all of the above
21:14.00KonsieurD:
21:14.05kerioenergy is *fun*!
21:18.54eccerr0rbesides, should immediately charge li-ion as soon as possible when discharged to empty
