04:46.14crhyloveHey team!  I keep getting stuck at "retrieving packages" during install.  How do I force it to use a different mirror?
04:46.59golinuxHave you gone back and tried again?
04:47.46golinuxSeems I remember that working for some folks.
04:49.42crhyloveYeah, tried both the first option and the auto option.
04:49.53crhyloveNeither work.  Just hangs forever.  On my 3rd boot now.
04:56.35golinuxI thought you could just go back and restart the dl.

04:58.54crhyloveI went to expert install mode and selected a Canadian mirror.  Working now!

06:59.10n4dir1but i guess someone will help you get it sorted.
07:00.52crhylovegoes to download refracta.
07:01.00crhyloveBeen meaning to try that anyway.  :)
07:01.42n4dir1i think in the home directory of the user, refrracta, there are notes about "debootstrap"
07:02.01n4dir1I did not look at them, but perhaps they contain info how to install devuan via debootstrap.
07:04.47crhyloveI should really be rolling my own at this point, but I haven't found sufficient motivation.  Yet.  Devuan with Mate is damned near perfect out of the box anyway.

13:46.14HestbenThus far, I have only tried out Devuan in a virtual machine.
13:47.00HestbenAnd I created an issue for updating the details of upgrading from debian 8.6 to devuan here: https://git.devuan.org/dev1fanboy/Upgrade-Install-Devuan/issues/21
13:47.52HestbenI have currently no experience creating deb packages, but I have some experience developing software in C/C++ and Python
13:48.04HestbenWhere would I start off?
13:48.32HestbenMaybe I should start off upgrading my desktop system to devuan and report any issues I encounter?

14:33.54ttrhey - any issues with repos - http://pastebin.com/NLk2pe0j ?
14:35.50ttrHestben: whai issues you had ? could you put more details ?
14:36.48ttrHestben: as I've did migration from debian to devuan in past (2 months ago) and 7 out of 10 machines did not had any issues (those 3 where bit special and issues where mostly due to how where they set up)
14:37.17ttrand adding what issues you had might help others - leaving info as "had some isses" is quite vague
14:40.06Hestbenttr: Using the instructions in https://git.devuan.org/dev1fanboy/Upgrade-Install-Devuan/wikis/Upgrade-to-Devuan, when purging, you couldn't purge the systemd lib, because the system was started using systemd
14:40.36ttrahh
14:40.41ttri think there is race condition
14:41.06HestbenSo, I had to reboot after the dist-upgrade, to use sysvinit. Then, purging would remove xfce4 and slim anyway, so I was forced to install them again anyway
14:41.48Hestbenttr: It could be because the debian I was upgrading from was using xfce, upgrading from gnome might not purge xfce when purging systemd
14:41.53ttrsince i did this mostly on servers i rebooted after apt-get dist-upgrade
14:42.31ttrbut had this issue on desktop and manage to mock systemd status, remove all on running system and force-reboot :)
14:42.38Hestbenttr: that seems to be a good idea to do it. apt wouldn't remove any init system the current running session was started with
14:42.49ttrquite fun to see that whole thing was blocked by one line of preremove script :)
14:42.56ttryeah

19:14.37bill-augeri added an article draft to the libreplanet wiki regarding the OpenSSL<->GPL incompatibility debate as a guide to help others decide how to handle this and similar licencing conflicts that may arise - https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Using_the_GPL_with_OpenSSL/BSD-4-clause - it includes everything i could find that is informative on the topic if you are interested to learn about the debate surrounding the conflict - better yet if
19:14.37bill-augeryou are knowlegable about the issue - the available data is sparse so there are many questions and yet little advice - please do read it, add to it, correct it, or leave you comments

22:06.17somerandomnickDoesn't sound pleasant, but there are levels of tired/sleepy *much* worse, hopefully you never experience those they are unpleasant.
22:07.13golinuxnextime: Happy to hear you landed safely.
22:07.56somerandomnickHmm, "Release file for http://us.mirror.devuan.org/merged/dists/jessie-security/InRelease is expired (invalid since 5min 53s). Updates for this repository will not be applied."
22:13.58XenguyJust got a similar message ^^
22:15.45VenkerI've got a question for you all: is cryptsetup giving you a timeout error when the script tries to unmount the LUKS disk?
22:16.17VenkerI've found that it's a bug inherited from Debian, but no systemd is involved

22:44.21somerandomnickSo, looks like the Devuan security repository is down and there is a serious security advisory out.
22:45.02OmegaPhilWhich advisory is that for reference?
22:45.25somerandomnickThe curl/libcurl one looks fairly bad.
22:45.36OmegaPhiloh god, more crap code in there eh
22:48.05somerandomnickIdeally the wget package would provide an script that emulates curl's command-line and thus allows it as an alternative, while curl could do similar at which point you could choose one or the other (though there wouldn't be an alternative to libcurl).

23:34.23somerandomnickVenker: While the policy changes which got Debian releases out more often are nice for being more current, they're bad since *many* more bugs are showing up in updates.
