03:02.29annadane!ssb
03:02.29dpkgFirst, check for a backport on <debian-backports>.  If unavailable: 1) Add a deb-src line for sid (not a deb line!); ask me about <deb-src sid> 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs.  To change compilation options, see <package recompile>; for versions newer than sid see <uupdate>.

13:01.12wewladdvs: same as with nginx-common
13:02.23wewladI guess I don't have any nginx packages installed and `dpkg -l` just lies to me
13:03.39wewlad`sudo dpkg -r nginx-common` ->  `dpkg: warning: ignoring request to remove nginx-common, only the config files of which are on the system; use --purge to remove them too`
13:05.35mackerel449wewlad: you gotta remove libnginx-mod-* packages separately, removing nginx-common won't do that
13:06.25wewladprobably `dpkg -l` doesn't do what I think it does: it doesn't list installed packages, it lists installed packages and removed packages with non-removed configs
13:06.54wewladso I needed to `dpkg --purge nginx-common` to finally make `dpkg -l` not list it anymore

22:11.46RedSoxFan07Is it possible to update a single program with apt?
22:12.11annadaneapt install foo
22:12.13dvsof course
22:12.32dvsRedSoxFan07, as long as it's from the same repo.
22:13.00RedSoxFan07I was curious because I'd like to run a newer version of the XFCE PulseAudio plugin and it looks like the easiest way would be to install it from the Sid repo. I'm running Buster and I'd like to run a newer version of that plugin.
22:13.29dvshence the "from the same repo" warning.
22:14.10annadanei hate myself for not knowing this but do both apt -t stretch-backports install foo and apt install -t stretch-backports foo work?
22:14.32RedSoxFan07I'm running Buster.
22:14.42RedSoxFan07Is there a backports repo for Buster?
22:14.50annadaneno, no. i was asking a seperate question

22:15.11RedSoxFan07annadane: Oh, okay.
22:15.35BrigoRedSoxFan07, if not big bugs found packages mitrates in few days fro sid to buster, so i would wait a bit.
22:15.41dvsRedSoxFan07, if you're running buster then you just have to wait a few days.

22:16.32Brigomigrate, right? :-)
