07:17.54dagelfSo... after another 9 hours of trial and error tweaking of configs... I can get Asterisk to pick up my Dahdi calls when I originate DAHDI/1 when I'm calling in. But when I hang up it just goes on hold. And dahdi_monitor shows nothing. And ring detection doesnt work...
07:27.41dagelfI guess its safe to say that the dahdi driver's got some sort of problem... sigh. It's the 7th version I'm trying.
07:27.51dagelfIs it possible my hardware is blown or something?

08:22.57pabeHey guys, I am barely keeping alive an astserisk server for roughly 40 users. In the future I might have to open up SIP/RTP to the Internet, so clients can register without the use of an additional VPN. Of course with encryption. I am not sure about setting this up correctly. Would one just expose the asterisk server or put something in front, like kamailio or opensips or something?
08:22.57pabecan you guys recommend some virtual classroom type sessions that'd teach the basics and advanced techniques of setting something like this up?

18:58.49dagelfdrmessano: I bought it brand new from Digium about 9 years ago... and never managed to get it working. Need it for a niche use case now, to replace much older failed hardware. It's probably 12 years old or so.
18:59.54drmessanoWell
19:00.04drmessanoIt's not even supported by the current DAHDI
19:00.13igcewielingThere was a TDM400P recall around 2003 or so.
19:00.51drmessanoI would get a chinese card and swap the modules, which I think are interchangeable
19:01.03drmessanoIf you only need it temporary
19:02.32drmessanodagelf: What is the configuration on the card?  How many ports?
19:04.22dagelf4 x FXO ports... just got two lines connected, and it picks them up I think it's only ring detection, hangup detection and gain... but concerning is that dahdi_monitor doesn't register any sound and seems to be some old version.
19:04.44dagelfGeez wow is it that old :-o
19:05.03drmessano12 years old, yes
19:05.06dagelfWhat was the recall about? I have some soldering skills and some components lying around...
19:05.28dagelfI guess igcewieling means 2013 then? not 2003 :-D
19:05.48drmessanoI think he meant what he meant
19:06.11drmessanoThe The tdm400p was gone before then
19:06.27drmessanoThe 410 was out ages ago
19:06.28dagelfI don't think importing is an option currently. Wow 17 years. I guess. Well I need it to receive CID signals with AlarmMonitor. It works... but only once. Then I have to reboot. Then it works once again...
19:06.57drmessanoWell
19:07.28drmessanoYou have an extinct card that doesn't seem to be working.  if swapping it isn't an option, then I guess you have no options
19:08.30dagelfIt works... almost. I don't mind climbing into the code to make it work if I have to. But I'm not going to do that if there's another way
19:08.41igcewielingI started using Asterisk in 2001.
19:08.46drmessano"Almost"
19:08.56drmessano"it works for a minute, then it stops"

19:09.41dagelf<PROTECTED>
19:10.09dagelfDid it ever work? :-D
19:12.16dagelfI actually tried a Trixbox and Ubuntu from 2010, and 2012 but they didn't even pick up the channels. Now I'm on i386 Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and it feels like I just need to figure out cadence settings or something. But it might be more.

19:14.22dagelfBasically same as this, plus I got the channels working https://community.freepbx.org/t/tdm400p-no-channels/7633
19:14.58dagelfI think ring works, might just be hangup that's stuck
