17:55.13linux_userHello everyone! Anyone here familiar with Cisco 7942G phones? I need a working SIP xml.cnf file to test with Asterisk, I tried to build one from stuff I found on the Internet but I am not succeeding! :)
17:58.14igcewielinggood luck.
17:58.25igcewielingvery very few people use those phones anymore.
18:04.17linux_userI hear, but someone must have one, they are dirt cheap
18:06.17igcewielingSo are phones which are not a pain in the ass to figure out, configure, and manage.
18:07.01igcewielingI'm sure many people have had a Cisco 79xx phone at some point, myself included.
18:15.10igcewieling*sigh*  from sales.   'Also please set up "Follow Me" for ext 302 with the following cell number xxx-xxx-1497.   DO NOT ENABLE FOLLOW ME'
18:28.10linux_userbut these are the ones I have now
18:28.17linux_userthank you for your assistance
18:29.26SamotReally the FollowMe request isn't odd or even uncommon.
18:30.03SamotAdd cell to FM list. Don't enable FollowMe. Set Unavailable Destination to "Force FollowMe"
18:30.24SamotSo now when my device is offline, calls are sent via FM to my cell.
18:30.56linux_userdoes anyone have  or know of a public asterisk server I can try to register with that will at least help me figure out if my XML is working or correct?
18:31.06igcewielingclever.   Our sales people would have no idea about that though.
18:32.03SamotWell just FYI, "Force FollowMe" is a usable destination to send calls to.

20:05.36sunsp0tslinux_user, there's nothing wrong with those phones. Just use skinny instead of sip. There are examples all over the place of the configs
20:06.49sunsp0tsI picked up 20 of them for 20 bucks off of ebay. I put them all over my house and built a custom script for instant call/answer/speakerphone/bridge so any phone can hit one hot key and they are all intercommed. I don't know why they get such a bad rap, especially since they don't cost $300 anymore
20:07.22sunsp0tsIf I get some free time this weekend I'll try to get you some info, PM me your email

20:12.11linux_usersunsp0ts, thank you! I am (for now) using an Asterisk server I do not control and it uses SIP
20:12.23linux_userI want to put up my own, but I want to get the phones working first
20:12.26linux_userand this is what he has
20:12.32linux_userSIP on Asterisk
20:13.04linux_useri have a 7940 that connects to his server with SIP fine
20:13.09linux_userbut this dumb 7942 won't
20:13.17linux_usersomething in the XML crap has to be wrong
20:33.15igcewielingsunsp0ts: how long did it take from your first Cisco 79xx phone until everything was mostly working?

20:37.36linux_usersunsp0ts: one thing I am wondering is that the 7942 has no way to modify is configuration from the phone, was that a feature Cisco removed?
20:37.46linux_userI see it but make no changes to it
20:37.49linux_usernot even the networking

20:41.04sunsp0tsigcewieling, I don't know, didn't keep track. I setup an tftp server and just created a default config for them all and then custom configs on a MAC by MAC basis. I created a simple PHP page that randomly pulled images from a dir so each phone would get a random family photo each time it booted. Also setup services that way so it has a dynamic directory and can control a few simple things if I decide to expand it. I have 7940's and 796
20:41.04sunsp0ts0's, I configure them all via configs as well, your SIP firmware may not care for XML, I can't remember, look for SIP examples, see what the phone says when it pulls the config. Make sure the TFTP server is actually handing it something
20:42.44sunsp0tsI power them all via POE to avoid the annoying power brick and accidental power loss issue, and my cisco switches VLAN them so the super long bootup takes only a few seconds now
20:43.24sunsp0tsas the VLAN lookup took ages whenever they start up, but if there is a response of any kind it's very fast

21:21.21shingdayhoCurrently got an issue with Monitor(), Its enabled on a queue. I need to disable it depending on an IVR
21:21.52shingdayhoIs there anyway to override the queue setting and disable it? I've been looking for a good few hours but not found anything for changing it for a Queue
