22:38.05 | kapookee | When one goes from wired to wireless ethernet on the slug, do you have to change anything other than /etc/network/interfaces? |
22:38.34 | kapookee | It runs fine if I bring up the wireless manually. When I change /etc/network/interfaces and reboot it hangs with.. |
22:38.38 | kapookee | ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready |
22:38.58 | kapookee | according to dmesg. |
22:45.11 | mwester | kapookee: might be module loading issue; perhaps the necessary modules are not available or loaded at the time the system processes the /etc/network/interfaces file at boot. |
22:45.33 | mwester | Works ok for me (atheros wireless, slugosbe 4.4) |
22:46.11 | mwester | I did have to do an "ifup ath0" before I could "iwconfig" the interface at all, though. |
22:46.30 | mwester | (it even works with WPA!) |
22:49.22 | kapookee | Yea, but that's via the command line, right? What about getting it to start at boot? |
22:49.33 | kapookee | ..or am I missing something? |
22:51.41 | kapookee | oops, missed one of you lines. :-) I'll check the "module loading issue". Thanks. |
22:53.47 | mwester | The ifup was done via the "ifup" script that's run when /etc/network/interfaces is processed. I also start wpa_supplicant in that script to get wpa to work; I'm sure there's a better way, but that hack worked for me. |
23:18.09 | rwhitby | mwester: can you put the contents of your /etc/network/interfaces file on the wiki somewhere? |
23:19.59 | kapookee | That *would* be helpful! |
23:21.36 | rwhitby | I've done something similar, including bridging eth0 and wireless. I can add that stuff to the same page. |
23:21.56 | rwhitby | (I don't have it working at the moment, but I have drips and drabs of the configuration files lying around) |
