02:46.42HashHello there folks
02:47.19HashI am on 18.04 Kubuntu and I use Xmonad. I tried 20.04 but that breaks Xmonad and tried to figure it out for over a week, then gave up
02:47.36HashI was wondering if anyone knows how to get the latest KDE on 18.04
02:47.39HashAre there any backports?
02:48.15HashIf not, would it be possible somehow to mix Neon repositories with 18.04 ubuntu bae?

02:52.11jankusanagi_you should ask on Kubuntu channels
02:52.31HashWhy would they know your repositories/sources?
02:52.52HashI'm looking for Neon sources.list, I'll experiment myself. If it breaks, I'll figure it out.
02:52.58HashCan you help me to find this?

11:31.58ertsHi there, does anybody have the problem of KDE Plasma's networkmanager keeps disconnecting the wifi connection and prompting for password, even having a stable and strong wifi signal and the password stored system-side? It's not happening to me with other desktop environments, just Plasma since version 5.12 (now running 5.18).
11:33.02ertsThis is happening on my three laptops with different wifi chips, by the way - so I would rule out drivers or hardware failures...
11:39.04*** join/#kde dionysus69 (~Thunderbi@unaffiliated/dionysus69)
11:40.15thriceNope, don't think I've ever seen that.  Anything in network manager's logs?
11:41.02*** join/#kde erts__ (~erts@unaffiliated/erts)
11:41.16thriceyou could rule out plasma, too, by maybe trying NM in another environment (say, xfce) for a few days, and seeing if you get disconnects there, too
11:41.26erts__And it happened again...
11:41.32erts__thrice: I did, not happening with other DEs
11:42.08*** join/#kde lakitu (~lakitu@unaffiliated/lakitu)
11:42.26thricethe other DEs were using networkmanager, too?
11:42.46erts__Yes of course
11:43.13erts__in fact whenever it happens, I click cancel and then re-connect by clicking on my wifi networkn from the networkmanager plasmoid and I don't get prompted, it just connects
11:43.18erts__it doesn't make sense to me...
11:44.27ertsI tested different distros with plasma and this happens with all of them, and I tested Xfce and MATE on different distros, and this does not happen at all
11:44.53thriceyeah, I wouldn't think plasma does anything smart, like deciding when to disconnect - it just interfaces to NM, which does the heavy lifting
11:45.26ertsEasy fix would be not to use Plasma, but I don't want to switch, I'd like to report this bug but I cannot replicate it, it seems random...
11:46.18ertsthrice: that's what I thought but clearly plasma is somehow interferring, if this problem is isolated to this desktop environment
11:47.01*** join/#kde Spike29 (~yannick@unaffiliated/spike29)
11:47.18ertsone of my guesses is that, when disconnected, Plasma's "implementation" of NM is trying to reconnect to quickly and the router rejects it and NM interprets that as if I typed a wrong password
11:47.52ertsHowever I don't see absolutely any WIFI instabilities when using other DEs, so a bit lost on that...

15:19.35FIQHi. This may or may not be a result of a new version or a new install meaning a new configuration (I assume the latter). I recently created a new Archlinux install on a new desktop. As part of that process, I installed a bunch of software that I use. However, I noticed that Konsole on this new install seem to treat the Alt key as Meta instead of Escape. I very much prefer the latter, but I have no idea how to
15:19.37FIQreconfigure it -- Google was unhelpful and looking at Konsole configuration, I wasn't able to find anything. Konsole version 20.04.1

15:25.49FIQNever mind, I appear to have misdiagnosed the problem. Alt+1-9 wasn't working, and a bit of googling seemed to show that Alt+numbers isn't functional if Alt is Meta, but works fine if Alt is Escape. The actual problem seems to have been that Alt+numbers is used to switch between tabs. I unbound those since I don't actually use tabs, and my problem was solved. Thanks anyway!

20:39.06JanKusanagi(outside of Plasma)
20:39.44JanKusanagiit's probably because Konsole has the option to be hidden and shown via global shortcut (similar to Yakuake), even if it's not a popular option

21:01.48NactAs in disabling "index file ocntent too"?
21:03.44poprocksNact: correct - I'm just curious. Do you have indexing of content enabled
21:04.34*** join/#kde aaa_ (~aaa@dynamic37-72-121-045.ostnet.pl)
21:04.45poprocksit's the default anyway. I just disable it because I don't need it and the initial run tends to take a long time on my machines and often chokes or crashes
21:07.08Nactyes it's enabled. Not sure whether metadata counts as file content

21:08.38poprocksNact: I'll check on my machine next time I launch KDE^H^H^H Plasma. I believe 'only basic indexing = true' only indexes the filenames, but I stand to be corrected
21:09.41NactI just tried and it still works, but maybe it's because the folder is already indexed now
21:10.45poprocksNact: I would think so, yeah. To truly test you'd have to blow away your lmdb and re-index with only basic indexing, which -- why would you -- so I'll try on my machine to satisfy my own curiosity
21:11.09NactAlright
21:12.31poprocksTFM says it only indexes the filenames, so I don't see why it *would* index metadata as well if that option is set
