07:15.19bigbrovarhi guys. Is anyone running kubuntu 18.04 with an nfs home directory. There seem to be a bug where user is unable to login because kdeinit5 complains of inability to write to user home directory.
07:15.21bigbrovarit seems kdeinit5 can't determine if a user home directory writeable if that home is on an nfs share.
07:15.23bigbrovarI also confirmed this to be the case if I run a kde application like kile under a different desktop environment, application crashes same with kdeinit5 complaining of inability to write to user home.
07:15.37bigbrovarI am on kubuntu 18.04 which uses plasma5.2 lts
07:17.01bigbrovarI filed a bug on the issue https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407855
07:17.17bigbrovaris anyone else experiencing this issue?
07:19.56AlexeyMurzKorepoI use Kubuntu 16.04 on nfs share (diskless pxe boot) normally, don't try yet update to 18.04. But seems on your instance this is some permission problem, not KDE.

07:40.58bigbrovarAlexeyMurzKorepo: well other desktop environment works.. other application work and there is a bug about this on Kubuntu. unless kde requires special nfs share options to work. Is there a documentation on getting kde to work with nfs like special options it requires?
07:41.56AlexeyMurzKorepoFor me all works well out-of-the-box on Kubuntu, without any special settings
07:41.58bigbrovarI will check my nfs options to see if there is something funky going on. but as it stands, Gnome, mint xfce and every other application including proprietary apps like matlab work without issues.
07:42.44bigbrovarAlexeyMurzKorepo: we have some computers running kubuntu 16.04 and mounting the same nfs share with same user and no issues with permission
07:42.49bigbrovarsame configuration
07:44.26bigbrovarWe deploy kde in computer labs we just started to upgrade the systems to kubuntu 18.04... this issue affected 18.04 systems not 16.04 systems. Both systems use the same nfs autofs config and mount the same nfs server

17:34.48arminhmmm, it seems kinda awkward that i can't let the kde panel show application starter icons in more than one line. when increasing the height, i get 4 lines of taskbar buttons, 2 lines of pager virtual desktops, 4 lines of system tray icons, etc. - but there doesn't seem to way to get multiline application starter icons. is there any cure to this?

22:32.07inahdsooo, what distro has the best kde experience set up, ootb?
22:32.26inahdso far i've used manjaro and opensuse...
22:33.00inahdbut i'm wondering if a particular distro has a good example of what kde can be, if configured nicely
22:34.43asturminahd: I'm not sure what you are searching for; did you have a particular problem with one of those distros?
22:34.52inahdum, no.
22:35.24inahdi guess i was wondering if there was a highly configured distro that was set up nicely. or something
22:35.40inahdjust to see
22:35.44asturmwith a pre-setup KDE Plasma that happens to perfectly align with your needs? ;)
22:36.04ZinjanthropusYou could try Neon
22:36.19inahdi'll check that out!
22:36.43hedgie_lappypersonally, I've found Manjaro and OpenSUSE to have the best kde experience.  I still had to spend a bit of time configuring it to the way I like, though
22:38.38inahdi'm kind of new to kde, so i thought seeing some more examples of what it's capable of could inspire me
22:39.01inahdi might be wrong though
22:39.28asturmyou'll probably see different default themes
22:39.39asturmbut that's about it; Plasma is what you make of it
22:39.49blue_bullet-M<inahd "i might be wrong though"> Neon is great but not much preconfigured.  Good learning experience lies ahead.
22:39.51inahd:/
22:41.18asturmmaybe what you are searching for really are some videos of users showing off their configs
22:41.31inahdthat could work, for sure
22:44.15inahdi'm tempted to give fedora a try, just because i never have
22:44.17hedgie_lappyI don't have any screenshots handy (and use a different DE on this machine), but my kde looks quite a bit like a mac
22:46.18inahdit seems like there a good amount of kde apps that work well together, but maybe require some configuration to do so?
22:46.44asturmwork together in what way?
22:47.53inahdi'm not exactly sure, just trying to figure it out
