06:42.03 | jonbeebe | hey, quick question regarding developing kde apps |
06:42.15 | jonbeebe | specifically the latest, qt5 |
06:42.18 | jonbeebe | is c++ the only route? |
06:43.08 | jonbeebe | (I know QML is javascript based, but seems like you still need to know c++ to make some real apps) |
06:46.26 | bcooksley | we used to have Python bindings in the KDE 4 era |
06:46.31 | boombatower | any possibilities for why meta key custom global shortcuts I setup no longer work? |
06:46.32 | bcooksley | no idea about the KF5 era |
06:46.47 | bcooksley | boombatower: check kglobalacceld |
06:46.51 | boombatower | in plasma 5 |
06:46.57 | bcooksley | and khotkeys |
06:47.04 | bcooksley | which is probably running as part of kded5 |
06:47.22 | jonbeebe | I wouldn't mind using JavaScript, but it's not clear if an entire app can be written in QML |
06:47.27 | jonbeebe | or if you have to dip into C++ |
06:47.30 | bcooksley | to check that open System Settings and search for "Service Manager" |
06:47.38 | boombatower | bcooksley: i was able to configure them in plasma 5, but after some updates they stopped working and now it seems it won't recognize meta key when trying to set shortcut |
06:47.44 | bcooksley | an entire app can't be written in QML at this time i'm afraid jonbeebe |
06:48.02 | jonbeebe | brooksley: thanks for the clarification |
06:48.05 | bcooksley | boombatower: i'd suggest checking with "xev" to see what the meta key registers as |
06:48.12 | jonbeebe | (looks like Go might be a viable option) |
06:48.48 | boombatower | bcooksley: looks like it no longer registers at all |
06:48.51 | boombatower | which is consistent with behavior |
06:49.02 | boombatower | something with xinput configuration or something that's eating it? |
06:49.05 | boombatower | or perhaps a kernel update |
06:49.07 | boombatower | hmm |
06:49.11 | jonbeebe | C++ is just a mammoth of a beast I really don't want to go into right now, might need to end up going that route though if I seriously want to develop a Qt app |
06:49.26 | bcooksley | jonbeebe: there is probably a skeleton out there you can utilise to get started |
06:49.40 | bcooksley | boombatower: check dmesg to see if the kernel doesn't know how to handle it |
06:49.45 | bcooksley | otherwise check your keyboard layout |
06:49.46 | mystica555_ | qt apps can be written in qtscript ;) |
06:49.54 | mystica555_ | all depends on what you want |
06:50.08 | jonbeebe | mystica555: includes qt5? |
06:50.22 | mystica555_ | maybe not 5 |
06:50.22 | jonbeebe | is qtscript just another name for QML? |
06:50.26 | mystica555_ | probably |
06:50.32 | mystica555_ | im not familiar with qt5 yer |
06:50.33 | mystica555_ | *yet |
06:50.34 | boombatower | bcooksley: generic 101 key pc |
06:51.13 | bcooksley | QtScript and QML are different creatures |
06:51.18 | bcooksley | both based on Javascript |
06:51.33 | bcooksley | but incompatible |

It's interfering with my hotkey I use to go to the next string: "Ctrl + ENTER" (same hotkey for Pootle). And pressing ENTER will insert an unwanted suggestion. I have to press ESC twice to get rid of the suggestion so I can move onto the next string. |

21:00.49 | ashemark | BlaXpirit: actually I went to application keyboard shortcuts, and saw the close window setting binding there.. lemme try what you suggested.. |
21:02.26 | ashemark | BlaXpirit: I tried to set Ctrl+w for a random action, but got a warning corroborating what I found out earlier.. it is already set for Close! |
21:02.44 | BlaXpirit | ashemark, well that's kinda bad news |
21:03.04 | BlaXpirit | all i can suggest is to clear ctrl+w in application shortcuts then try if it will warn you in global shortcuts again |
21:03.13 | BlaXpirit | but this is most likely not gonna have any good resul |
21:03.15 | BlaXpirit | t |
21:03.44 | ashemark | BlaXpirit: hmm sure |
