01:05.44johnny69Well,  this problem has persisted across several revisions.  An update so far has not fixed it at any time.  :(

01:07.49johnny69I'm almost wondering if it's not "distro specific" since the opensuse default wallpaper keeps appearing in some way in every screensaver module I choose.  (And I'm not using that default login background anywhere on this computer)

10:54.22gp29111993Hello all
10:54.42Walex2bea_: a keyboard shortcut to the *start menu*? Probably you need to edit a '.desktop' file.
10:55.15Walex2bea_: also, the start menu items are managed in the standard XDG way, so you may want to have a look at the 'xdg-*' commands.
10:56.30gp29111993I am from IIT-Madras., doing my Bachelor of Technology course in Computer Science and Engineering. As part of my curriculum, we need to contribute to open source. Any ideas?
10:57.29Walex2gp29111993: some KDE work therefore?
10:57.36rishi_hey, i am interested in working on Gwenview open source project, can anyone suggest ideas some ideas regarding this
10:57.51gp29111993exactly
10:58.16Walex2gp29111993: there are lots and lots of feature requests in the KDE issue database...
10:58.18gp29111993wud like to know if there are any small stuff in which we can contribute to
10:59.08Walex2gp29111993: I am for example keen on better support for using screens with different DPIs which current has some annoying limitation.
10:59.28Walex2gp29111993: but there are much more interesting feature requests.
10:59.33gp29111993oh wonderful….the problem is our institute has set a deadline of 40 days for the project, so I fear we would not be able to make some significant changes
10:59.48Walex2gp29111993: they are not huge changes.
11:00.20Walex2gp29111993: another one I have been thinking is to allow using 'recoll' instead of 'strigi' for indexing files.
11:00.49Walex2gp29111993: but again, there is a whole lot of small things users have asked in the issue database
11:01.02gp29111993Walex2: oh I am sorry for being such a noob but what exactly are recoil and strigi?
11:01.40Walex2gp29111993: http://www.kde.org/kdeslides/ConfKDEIn2011/edu-report.pdf
11:02.12scummosisn't strigi like dead since 3 releases

12:01.27bea_the safe way to change settings of plasma applets (this has worked elsewhere) is to do it during plasma setup. it's a hassle, but there it is
12:01.56Walex2bea_: that's a  bit peculiar. Plasma applets are not in menus...
12:02.07Walex2bea_: so perhaps I misunderstood your question.
12:03.31bea_Walex2: to clarify, what i mean was a keyboard shortcut that 'activates' the applet, so to speak, in this case show the start menu from the start button. you can set this shortcut by right clicking the applet (start button), then 'application launcher settings'.

12:08.40bea_well, since there are many instances possible, you *have to* assign the shortcut to a specific instance, which is what's happening here. the problem is, the only point in time at which this instance of the applet can be properly identified is during plasma setup, which is controled by the aforementioned java script. later it is identified by 'widget 20' but that can change depending on how many widgets (other ones, not 20 launchers) there are.

19:39.11zenkekuxmonad
19:39.17scummoshow do you start it?
19:39.47zenkekuIt runs flawlessly normally -- however I reconfigure it quite constantly and when the WM is reloaded parts of it do not restart. When I force restart those parts plasma-desktop stops running.
19:39.48scummosor, different question -- did you set that as a window manager in kde's systemsettings?
19:39.58zenkekuI did.
19:40.16scummosok ... I guess if you don't want plasma to start you should instead start xmonad directly instead of startkde

19:41.40scummos... it probably is through some environment magic, I guess
19:41.54scummosyeah, I know, but that should also work if you don't run a kde session
