23:47.04 | illissius | hi guys |
23:47.47 | illissius | anyone have an idea why the kde file dialog would be _ridiculously_ slow and resource-intensive? |
23:48.24 | Sho_ | illissius: platform? |
23:48.30 | illissius | the first time I open it the hard disk activity LED goes on full-tilt for minutes and the desktop is basically unusable |
23:48.46 | illissius | I'm not sure if it's accessing the disk itself or using so much memory that it causes swapping |
23:49.08 | illissius | Sho_: debian sid, kde 4.5ish from svn |
23:49.30 | Sho_ | dunno then. I've had a problem like that on Windows, but only there |
23:49.39 | Sho_ | (i.e. KDE Windows) |

23:50.18 | illissius | Sho_: in that it brings the entire system to its knees, or just the dialog itself is slow to operate? |
23:50.26 | illissius | I wouldn't mind so much if it was the latter |
23:51.26 | illissius | I thought it was because it was opening at a directory with thousands of files, but if it opens at a different one it makes no difference (if anything, it's gotten worse) |
23:51.53 | Sho_ | illissius: Mostly taking 30 seconds to appear and for every subsequent operation |
