I just bulit my first home FC 13 system with KDE as the desktop this morning and ended up in this channel when looking around for help on getting my wireless nic to work.
02:36.12darkon1365I am used to working on the shell side of things just worrying about the general settings related to web servers, Apache and Tomcat mostly, along with some Postfx, Exim and Qmail sprinkled in.

Google search only brings up a forum thread from 2004. 2. i set a cursor theme in systemsettings but it looks like it is completely ignored, and it isn't the cusor i have set in gnome/metacity either. 3. visual corruption when a gnome auto-hide panel drop

04:28.21dumbguy:(
04:29.01Ganymedesreich: i believe it's windows manager related because i get different cursor behaviors whether i'm using KWin, metacity, or compiz...but KDE apps apparently have the power to ovverride the cursor because when i use metacity, KDE apps just ignore my gnome cursor settings and use their own cursor theme
04:29.18sreichdumbguy: oh uhm, strike that..
04:29.18Ganymedewhen i mouse over KDE apps, my cursor suddenly changes
04:29.35sreichdumbguy: in the bookmark editor file->import...mozilla, should work.

15:47.05BtbNIs there a way to somehow stick a window(The Kopete Contact List) to one side of the screen, so that no other windows maximise over it?
15:47.37spidermarionot yet
15:47.47BtbNhmmm
15:47.49spidermariobut KWin-tiling might be the solution to your problem
15:47.55BtbNHow do i use it?

15:50.03cb400fBtbN: right click titlebar -> advanced -> "keep above others" is not what you want?
15:50.14BtbNNo
15:50.19BtbNother windows still maximise under it
15:50.40BtbNUnbelievable most people never used that decent feature on Windows...
15:50.51cb400fdo you know the tricks of right clicking and middle clicking the maximize button of windows?
15:51.07BtbN?
15:51.12cb400ftry it :-)
15:51.18BtbNDoes nothing here
15:51.25BtbNjust maximises in height only
15:51.33cb400fexactly :-)
15:51.35BtbNSo?
15:52.00BtbNI want the kopete contact list to basicaly behave like a Plasma Bar
15:52.11James147BtbN: makes it easier and quicker to get the effect you want since kwin dosent support the actual feature yet...
15:52.30BtbNThere is no way to even get close to this feature with that
15:53.18James147wonders if you can split the screen up so there is a small thin screen the width of the kopete window...
15:53.39BtbNlooks like this tiling feature in Kwin 4.5 is exactly that
15:53.48James147BtbN: the point being that there really isent a closer way
15:54.08James147BtbN: not exatly... and I dont think in its current state is what you want
15:54.08BtbNYeah, and this sucks
15:54.12pinotreedoes it help if you right click on the title bar of the kopete window → advanced → special window settings → window extra → type = dock (panel)?
15:54.25BtbNThe settings does not change anything. pinotree
15:54.40BtbNNo idea how plasma manages to stop windows from maximising over the Bars
15:57.15James147BtbN: if you really want this feature you could try: http://ksvladimir.blogspot.com/2008/06/converting-any-window-into-plasmoid.html
15:57.29James147and see if you can place the widget in a panel
15:57.41BtbNPlasmoids(The Widgets) don't behave like a Bar
15:57.50BtbNand placing them into one is also not possible
15:58.05BtbNi'm looking for this feature for half a year now, and found nothing useable
15:59.21James147BtbN: widgets dont behave like the panel... but cna be placed inside a panel///

22:57.57LECO1000I did ask it.
22:58.03LECO1000All, I'm on KDE3.5 .  I'm struggling to turn of a feature, if the mouse cursor is at the left most edge of the screen and I rotate the mouse wheel, kwin changes my active application.  How do I disable this?
22:58.18LECO1000It actually seems to be at either left or right edge of the active window.
22:58.24Sho_ah, sorry, didn't scroll up high enough
22:58.40LECO1000np.  Do you have any suggestions?  I really want to disable it, it's driving me insane.
22:59.40Sho_LECO1000: I'd say look around in the "Window Behavior" options ... it could also be that what you're seeing is a virtual desktop switch if the cursor is on the desktop at that point, because there was an option to switch the VD when wheeling on the desktop surface
22:59.50Sho_finally, there's also an option to switch tasks when wheeling on the taskbar
23:00.10Sho_KDE 3.5 is very old and I don't have it anymore, so I can't point you at specific locations, sorry
23:00.21LECO1000Yeah, I poked around the Windows Behavior...
23:00.35LECO1000Where does KDE store its configuration settings?
23:00.46LECO1000I mean, for those things the control center lets you change?
23:01.10Sho_in numerous files in $KDEHOME/share/config/
23:01.14LECO1000hrm.
23:01.16LECO1000OK
23:01.31Sho_where $KDEHOME is ~/.kde or ~/.kde3 or ~/.kde3.5 or ~/.kde4 depending on how your distro likes to set things up
23:01.43LECO1000Control center for Window isn't showing anything with respect to the mouse wheel, but I'm certain the option is set somewhere.
23:01.45LECO1000I'll poke around.
23:02.16Sho_relevant config files in this case could be kwinrc (window manager), kdesktoprc (desktop surface), kickerrc (panel) and kdeglobals (various global options)
23:02.30LECO1000Thanks, that's really helpful.
23:02.43LECO1000let me poke around...
23:02.49Sho_however
23:03.15Sho_config files only show settings when their state deviates from the global default (which is specified in the source code, and thus the compiled apps)
23:03.28Sho_so if that behavior happens to be the default setting, you won't find anything in the files
