19:57.53wulllsthey there, i just wanted to point out, that i think there's a problem with the dependencies of the package of adwaita-icon-theme in devuan. if i'm informed correctly, that packages belong to gnome 3. now here comes the problem:
19:58.38wulllstit seems, when you try to install a desktop environment (at least mate and lxde), it's often there as an unnecessary dependency, and you explicitly have to deselect it, which does not only have the benefit of getting rid of an unwanted icon theme, but will save you tens of megabytes of disk space, as one example i wrote down shows.
19:59.40wulllsti had executed "apt-get install lxde-core lxsession lxterminal lxappearance lxinput lxrandr gksu alsa-base alsa-utils mate-icon-theme adwaita-icon-theme- libsmbclient- samba-libs- xscreensaver-" to install a not too crowded desktop environment
20:00.15*** join/#devuan pencilandpaper (~penciland@unaffiliated/pencilandpaper)
20:00.19wulllstthen i wanted to install pluma as a text-editor (the standard text editor from mate desktop)
20:00.24*** part/#devuan n4dir (~user@pD9EF0FC1.dip0.t-ipconnect.de)
20:00.44Rotia_Kfreemangordon, what are you saking to parazyd?
20:01.05wulllsti tried "apt-get install pluma", which gave me: 110 packages to be installed, 57,5 MB to be fetched and 193 MB to be used on my drive
20:01.44Rotia_Ki tried to build pluma and caja yesterday, but i found some problems
20:01.52Rotia_Ki'll try it again
20:02.15freemangordonRotia_K: hmm? did you mean "saying"?
20:02.16wulllstin the list of packages to be installed, i found "adwaita-icon-theme", which i knew, i did not want.
20:02.27Rotia_Ksee you tomorrow, dear rebels :)
20:02.53wulllstso i simply tried "apt-get install pluma adwaita-icon-theme-". now see what happened:
20:03.05wulllst14 packages to be installed, 4,852 MB to be fetched and 23,3 to be used on my drive

20:07.42*** join/#devuan mlsmith (~Mike@unaffiliated/configx)

20:08.15fsmithredbut not the suggested ones
20:08.22wulllstfsmithred: get it.
20:08.23fsmithredcorrect
20:09.05wulllstwell, then i just wonder, if that is a sane recommendation.
20:09.32fsmithreda lot of people turn off auto installing recommends
20:09.40wulllstok
20:09.45fsmithredbecause there's a lot of extra cruft with some packages
20:10.24fsmithredalso, you may run into some weirdness when you add stuff to a lean installation
20:10.45fsmithredand occasionally, you'll get different results with aptitude vs. apt-get
20:11.00fsmithrednot sure about just 'apt' as I never use that.
20:11.05wulllstok, i'm dogmatically on apt-get
20:11.21fsmithredlol, same here
20:11.36fsmithredfor lenny and squeeze it was aptitude
20:11.37wulllstbut what do you mean by "lean installation"?
20:12.05fsmithredyou started with standard system and added stuff individually - lean = not fat
20:12.18wulllstok, i understand.
20:12.55fsmithredyou can also do stuff to find cruft
20:13.09wulllstyes i was checking out the best way to install an kind of minimalistic version of lxde that still had my favorite applications in it today.

20:14.31wulllstfantastic
20:15.08fsmithreddeborphan shows packages that no longer serve a purpose
20:15.45fsmithredand when you remove those packages that it shows you, you should then run deborphan again

20:18.20fsmithredyeah, I think there is, but I'd need to read both man pages carefully to figure out what the difference is
